This course assists participants preparing for the AMC Part II Clinical Examination. This unique course focuses on clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes as well as cultural competence in the Australian health system: » Clinical training using variety of simulated cases focusing on clinical, ethical, medico legal, and cross cultural communication. » Team-based objective structured clinical examination (tOSCE). » Video-taped tOSCE and performance feedback. » Individual mentoring.

Our workplace orientation program covers AMC mandated content. In addition, it has extremely positive practical outcomes – On completion international medical graduates understand the professional norms of the Australian health system. They are able to practise safely, effectively and gain the trust of colleagues and patients. A wide range of important medical principles and professional behaviours are covered. Overseas trained nurses and nurse unit managers (NUMs) say that our cross-cultural training has extremely positive practical outcomes – On completion, nurses who have trained and worked overseas understand Australian workplace practices and are able to better communicate with colleagues and patients. Participants obtain CPD points and practical skills. You will find out: » How culture influences behaviour. Why do we behave in a particular way? » What can I do to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients? » How can I be an effective team member? Nurse educators / preceptors obtain CPD points and practical skills. The workshops are being held in response to requests from nurse educators and preceptors working with overseas trained nurses. The workshops are practical. They explore the different expectations of nurses who have trained and practised overseas and how to support their orientation so they can practise safely in the Australian health system. They explore why nursing is practised as it is in Australia. And how it differs from the way nursing is practised in other countries. » You will find out about some of the major differences in workplace communication. » You will understand why nurses and midwives from other cultures behave as they do. » You will develop strategies and learning activities to support overseas trained nurses and midwives to transition successfully into the Australian health system.
